Giving Thanks

March 14, 2011 - 1:44pm.

In psalm 107 the psalmist calls out 5 times for the redeemed to give thanks to the Lord. He tells the story of God's redemption for the wanderers, the prisoners, those suffering from affliction, and those tossed about by the stormy seas... Each time the people cried out to the Lord in their trouble and He delivered them from their distress. And the psalmist calls on the redeemed to give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.

Do you realize that every one of us who trusts Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior has also been redeemed?

Galatians 3:13-14

13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree." 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

In psalm 107 the psalmist calls on those redeemed and delivered from earthly distress to give thanks. The difference for us who have given our lives to Jesus Christ is our redemption goes further than being delivered from an earthly distress. Our redemption in Jesus Christ is eternal! We have been redeemed not just earthly distress but eternal distress! So I want to borrow from the words of the psalmist.

Let us give thanks to the LORD for His unfailing love
and His wonderful deeds for men.

So be blessed today you are redeemed in Christ Jesus and remember to give thanks!
